CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Mommy & Me:  (1 & 2 years)
This 45-minute class is designed as movement exploration for children ages 12-23 or 24-36 months to complete with their moms, dads or guardians. The use of props, mats, and sing-along songs allows each adult to help her child develop motor and coordination skills in a fun, structured environment. 

Creative Movement: (ages 3-4)
Creative movement will encourage self-discipline and self-confidence while incorporating coordination, rhythm and basic dance steps.  Children will work on fine and gross motor skills, spatial awareness and flexibility through the use of creative games, stories and props.

Ballet: (ages 5 & up)
Ballet is the foundation for most dance forms.  These classes will focus on developing a solid ballet technique with emphasis on understanding correct body placement, proper use of turn out, coordination of the upper body, and use of arms. Class begins with work at the barre to build strength and coordination, followed by center exercises, culminating in a grand allegro combination or variation. Clear explanations of exercises and theory help students use the ballet vocabulary in a simple, practical way that leads to increased technical understanding, healthy physical development, and lifelong enjoyment. Students 11 and older with strong ballet technique, sufficient core and ankle strength, and a teacher's recommendation go on to study 'en pointe'. 

Contemporary:  (ages 6 & up)
Dancers will explore the physicality, principles, and aesthetics of contemporary dance, with influences from Limón, Graham, and Cunningham techniques, as well as movement improvisation and choreography. The course will improve the student’s movement potential, body awareness, and musicality. Emphasis is placed on increasing strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, speed, phrasing, and proper alignment.

Tap:  (ages 6 & up)
Classes will focus on rhythm, musicality and timing. All classes begin with an energetic warm-up, across the floor exercises and combinations.

Jazz: (ages 6 & up)
 In this style of dance, dancers will learn isolations, across the floor and combinations.  Jazz classes explore traditional, Broadway and contemporary styles in a fun, energetic atmosphere. Classes begin with a warm-up with stresses technique, flexibility, coordination and strength, followed by progressions across the floor, center work and combinations.

Hip Hop: (ages 6 & up)
Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

Pilates Mat Classes:  (ages 12 & up)
Pilates is a system of controlled exercises that engage the mind and condition the total body. The blend of strength and flexibility training improves posture, reduces stress and creates long, lean muscles.  Pilates takes a balanced approach so that no muscle group is overworked and the body moves as an efficient, holistic system in sport and daily activity.

Adult Fitness Classes:  
Various forms of classes offered including Pilates and Barre Fitness.  Classes are designed to help build strength and flexibility while toning and sculpting.
